Markey Machinery Company is the winner of the
2006 Plimsoll Award for
Innovation!
John
Gormley, Editor of Professional Mariner magazine, presented Markey
Machinery Company with the 2006 Plimsoll Award for Innovation, during a
ceremony held as part of the Connecticut Maritime Association's Shipping
2007 conference. The coveted Samuel Plimsoll Award recognizes a product,
service, or procedure that has significantly improved the well-being or
safety of mariners.
Markey Machinery was nominated as a Plimsoll Award candidate based on
the development of our revolutionary single-drum asymmetric
“render-recover” (ARR) electric hawser winch designs - designs that have
dramatically improved the safe handling of ships and lines, and
represent a major leap forward in ship-assist and escort tug winch
technology.

Founded in 1907, Markey Machinery Company
is the leader in the
design and manufacturing of high quality custom deck machinery for
workboat, scientific, and dockside applications.
We have established our reputation for
quality by delivering machinery that is built for the long haul every
time. "Hell-for-Stout" is a term often heard when describing our
equipment. Originally coined by our founder Charles Markey in the early
1900’s, it remains our guiding principal to this day.
We maintain our high level of quality by
applying sound marine engineered designs, and by handling almost every
phase of manufacturing using craftsman skilled in all areas of
fabrication, machining, and final assembly.
Ours is not a reputation built overnight - it
takes attention to detail, and an engineering involvement in the
industry that is unequalled by our peers. We maintain our focus on the
marine industries, and related applications, and strive to be at the
cutting edge of technology for these applications. If your application
is on or near the water, we can build the winch for you.
